There is always something special to enjoy when visiting the Broads National Park whatever the season. Winter brings its own array of adventures. With it’s wide-open skies, wrap up warm and take a brisk walk out on a dry and sunny day or visit one of the many festive events which take place during December. Days out in the fresh air never disappoint.

Horsey Beach is famous at this time of year for the ever-growing seal colony, attracting over 100,000 visitors during the breeding season. Visit the grey seals between November and January. Be sure to look at the website when planning your visit. Horsey is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest and around 3,500 pups are born each year.

Walnut Farm at Waxham offers two cosy, dog friendly Farm Cottages just a stone’s throw from the Broads and the coast. Book a stay there this winter as they offer direct walking access to the Horsey seal colony.

For a festive city break, indulge in the Festive Shop and Stay offer at the Maids Head Hotel, set in the medieval Tombland area of Norwich. The city boasts a fantastic selection of independent stores as well as the high street favourites.

Looking for a festive experience for all the family to enjoy? Look no further than the Bure Valley Railway, Aylsham or Broads Tours, Wroxham. One on a track, the other on the water! But both offering the magical option of visiting Santa.

Wroxham Barns have a very Christmassy experience for all the family, which includes visiting the Junior Farm along with a visit to Santa.

The Broads National Park is exceptionally proud of its many independent Breweries and Pubs. At Christmas many are renowned for producing a special festive beer. Give the gift of the rich and spicy fruity ruby ale called Tinsel Toes, from Woodfords; or Christmas Crackling, the 7% brown ale from Humpty Dumpty, to someone special.

Barnes Brinkcraft are also offering Christmas and New Year Breaks. Book a warm and snug cottage in Wroxham, the capital of the Broads. Stays include a free day boat to explore the River Bure.

Wanting an exhilarating experience? This is definitely not something for the faint hearted! Try Swim and Sauna offered by Three Rivers Pitch and Paddle. Swim in the private waterway before warming up in the floating, wood fired sauna!
