Although it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, there is still peace and quiet to be found in the National Park. Or, get in the Christmas spirit and head out to one of these festive events.

Steam Trains to Santa - Norwich Road

A 3-hour magical experience, including a personalised present for each child.

Come on board the Vintage Broadsman with Santa and his Pixies for an hour of Family Festive Fun. The Pixies will serve mulled wine and mince pies for the adults and a soft drink and festive cookie for the children. While Santa’s sleigh is flying overhead, children can take part in our seasonal quiz, sing along to Christmas songs and enter our colouring or drawing competition. Santa will then land on the roof, and come down into the cosy saloon with a sack bursting full of named quality presents for all the 1-15 year olds.

Christmas Concerts – Hoveton St John Church

Two Christmas concerts with seasonal and classical songs performed by Hayley Moss (soprano) and Benjamin Lake (tenor). Tickets £12.50, including mulled wine/ refreshments. All proceeds in aid of the Church. Tickets available from Roger or Sarah on 01692 630 892.

Warden Walk – Fairhaven Water Garden

Take a walk on the wild side every first Friday of the month with Tabs, our Wildlife Warden and get inside knowledge of what makes our woodland garden such a unique environment of diverse habitats. All of which are organically managed, which makes it great for wildlife - some of it quite rare.
Booking only as limited spaces.

Raptor Roost Guided Walk, Hickling Broad and Marshes

A guided walk to watch one of Norfolk’s greatest winter wildlife spectaculars! From the ‘raptor roost viewing area’ visitors can see birds of prey fly in to roost before nightfall.

When: 8 December

Woven Waters Exhibition - Norwich Cathedral

Woven Waters is the culmination of a year-long project during which six artists have made work in response to sites throughout the Broads National Park.  All Hostry exhibitions are free and open Monday to Saturday 9.30am-4.30pm and Sunday 10am-3pm.

When: Friday 13 December until Sunday 19 January.

Whitlingham Christmas Family Fun - Trowse

Christmas is coming to Whitlingham with a sack full of magical fun and things to do. Make your own natural decorations and join us for winter woodland activities. Father Christmas will be arriving at twilight with an early Christmas present for everyone.

Father Christmas at Fairhaven

Have yourself a woodland Christmas experience in our winter garden. Take a stroll through our woodland to meet the reindeer and visit Father Christmas tucked away among the trees. There will be live music, craft stalls, illuminations and an Elves' Workshop with Christmas crafts to keep the children busy. Seasonal food in the tearoom and marquee. An event for all the family to enjoy.

Thorpe Marshes Guided Walks

Explore NWT Thorpe Marshes, in the Broads, yet on the edge of Norwich in Thorpe St Andrew. It's a charming mix of grazed and ungrazed marshes, ditches and the open water of St Andrew's Broad.

Christmas Crafty Creations

NWT Hickling Broad is a wonderful place to be in winter. Draw inspiration from this living landscape and create some unique Christmas decorations from natural materials.

Children's Wildlife Watch - Raptor Roost – Hickling

Learn the difference between the raptors; their different behaviours, how to identify them and their life cycle in the Education Hut. Afterwards we’ll walk down to the raptor roost and find out why NWT Hickling Broad is so important.

Boxing Day Walk – South Walsham

Walk off your Christmas dinner with a tour of our woodland garden with the Head Gardener. Learn about the history of Fairhaven, the collection of plants introduced by the 2nd Lord Fairhaven and the organic working methods still used today by the gardening team. Finish your walk with a complimentary mince pie and hot mulled wine.
